Oak is not the only wall
Some rooms want honey wood. Some rooms already have dark floors, dark frames, or a walnut table, and a pale shelf looks like it wandered in from another apartment.
Same board problem. Different color.
Walnut is not a stain on cheap pine. It is a solid plank with the same square ends and the same hidden steel as the oak shelf.
Walnut, square ends, matched hardware
without a wash of stain on a pale core
without a different hang to learn
without visible brackets
